West Ham United defender Craig Dawson could leave club in January

There is a good chance West Ham United defender Craig Dawson could leave the club in January if a replacement for him is found, according to journalist Ryan Taylor.

Dawson will enter the final six months of his Hammers contract at the turn of the year with it looking unlikely the defender will pen new terms on a fresh deal.

Taylor confessed that there is a “good chance” that Dawson could leave West Ham United in January, especially if David Moyes can get someone else in.

West Ham

“I think there’s a good chance he could actually leave West Ham in January providing a replacement is signed,” said Taylor as quoted by GIVEMESPORT.

“I think he still lives in Manchester, which is crazy, so he wants to get a move back that way.

“Wolves were linked in the summer and I think he was told he couldn’t go because it was too late in the window to get a replacement.”

West Ham

Makes sense.

With Dawson nearing the end of his West Ham United contract it makes sense that the club and the defender may look to go their separate ways.

Nevertheless, the Hammers are sitting dangerously close to the relegation zone and having a player with Dawson’s experience in the squad could be vital.

The defender has played 243 games for the Irons and has become a cult hero with fans during his time at the London Stadium, with many hoping he’ll stay put.

Dawson scored a memorable goal against Lyon in last season’s UEFA Europa League and would be fondly remembered should he choose to leave London.

Although, after Kurt Zouma underwent knee surgery last month and the timeline of his return is still unclear, this leaves Moyes with few options at the back.

Dawson would be a safe pair of boots for the Scot to look to in this precarious position the Irons are in, with luck, things will be a lot brighter come January.
