West Ham United: Declan Rice and David Moyes avoid FA punishment

West Ham duo David Moyes and Declan Rice have avoided punishment by the FA after their comments on Andy Madley’s decision to disallow Maxwel Cornet’s equalising goal against Chelsea, as reported by The Athletic.

Moyes was clearly frustrated in his post-match interview and called the decision “scandalous” after Édouard Mendy was allegedly fouled by Jarrod Bowen in the lead-up to the goal.

Rice took to Twitter after the game and brandished the decision as “one of the worst” decisions VAR has been involved with since it was introduced into the game.

However, The Athletic revealed on Sunday 4 September that they will both escape punishment from the FA.

Awful decision

Rice is bang on with his assessment of Madley’s decision to disallow the goal.

VAR has been added to the game to get the big decisions correct and make sure clear and obvious errors are spotted.

However, Bowen’s foul on Mendy had no impact on where the ball went and also was not a clear and obvious error from the referee.

The VAR official is the one to blame in this situation because at no point should Madley have been called over to look at the alleged foul in the first place.

West Ham

It’s time for officials to come out and explain why a decision was made in a certain way, with big moments like this proving season-defining.

Players, managers and fans all work hard all week and deserve a far better level of officiating when it comes to the Premier League.

The fact that this wasn’t an isolated incident this weekend also shows that something desperately needs to change when it comes to officiating in this country.

The Athletic also reported (4 September) that West Ham want to seek clarification over the decision.
