West Ham United: David Moyes has had enough as Jeff Stelling shares manager update

Ally McCoist and Jeff Stelling believe it is only a matter of time before David Moyes leaves his managerial role after West Ham were defeated 5-2 by Crystal Palace on Sunday (21 April).

Early goals from Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze, Jean-Philippe Mateta and an Emerson Palmieri own goal saw Moyes condemned to his quickest-ever four-goal deficit in 693 games of management – 31 minutes. [OPTA]

Michail Antonio scored West Ham’s first goal before Mateta bagged his brace, though Dean Henderson’s late error would see the match finish 5-2 at Selhurst Park.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Monday (22 April, 7:54am), McCoist said: “Only time will tell, but I think a certain section of the West Ham fans feel that a change is required. I don’t know exactly how David will feel, but I get the impression that enough is enough.

“In my opinion, it’s been a very, very successful period. But sometimes you get that feeling that you can sense that things are coming to an end with an amicable parting of ways.”

Jeff Stelling added: “I agree with you. It sounds like he may have just about had enough when he says he was embarrassed. I suspect David Moyes has had enough. But I do wonder… Who the heck would come in to replace him?”

Will David Moyes be West Ham United manager next season?

It seems that the Scot has taken this Hammers squad as far as he possibly can, though by his own admission, has a new contract on the table at the London Stadium.

Moyes has provided the West Ham fans with plenty of amazing memories, especially having led them to their first European title in multiple decades.

However, football is a results-based sport and those have not been positive for the Hammers since the turn of the year, with several embarrassing displays under Moyes’ guidance.

The 5-2 defeat to Crystal Palace is just the tip of the iceberg, compounded by a 4-3 loss to Newcastle United, a 6-0 thrashing by Arsenal, being knocked out of the FA Cup by Bristol City and the 5-1 loss to Liverpool in the EFL Cup, to name just a few.

Moyes is under immense pressure, and more now than ever after the Palace defeat, and this could definitely be his last season at the London Stadium.
