West Ham United could officially unveil £20million Nayef Aguerd this week
West Ham are yet closer to completing the signing of Nayef Aguerd and could formally unveil him by the end of the week, according to the Evening Standard.
The player has travelled to London following the completion of his international duty with Morocco and should be confirmed very soon.
A fee for the deal has varied hugely across different reports, and for what it’s worth the Standard expect him to cost around £20million up front and include significant add-on clauses.
The 26-year-old Rennes defender will now undergo a medical as the move approaches its conclusion.
David Moyes made a left-footed centre-back a priority this summer and will reportedly listen to offers for Issa Diop once the Aguerd transfer is sealed.
At long last
The extended international break, which hasn’t excited many people following the conclusion of league season, has got in the way of this process being finished.
Jarrod Bowen’s international debut is a small Hammers positive, although England’s dreadful form has tempered that, but fans have been forced to wait that much longer to see the club begin to strengthen the squad.
Assuming there are no unforeseen issues that arise from the medical it should be done any day now, and an official unveiling in the next couple of days would be a positive.
The club want to sure up the back line which was operating with a skeleton crew for much of the 2021/22 season.
Diop looks to be on his way out if the Irons can find any takers willing to offer a decent fee, and questions marks around Angelo Ogbonna’s fitness are considerable after a major injury.
Kurt Zouma had some injury issues of his own last year, and the squad as a whole was seen as somewhat undermanned.
Incomings are certainly necessary this summer, and while some clubs have got off to very fast starts there has been nothing official from the Hammers yet, but that looks to be ready to change.
