West Ham United consider January bid for Barcelona ace Jordi Alba

West Ham United are considering making an offer for FC Barcelona defender Jordi Alba in January, according to Spanish media outlet Fichajes.net.

The 33-year-old has won every trophy under the sun during his time at the Blaugrana but he no longer fits into the plans of manager Xavi Hernandez, his former teammate at Camp Nou.

As a result, the Spanish international could be set to leave the club he has spent 10 years playing for when the January transfer window opens.

Currently, Alba does not have any intention to leave Barcelona in order to play more regularly than he is doing right now with his contract running until the summer of 2024.

West Ham are still keen to make a bid, however, but whether it will be a permanent or loan move is yet to be seen as Alba’s very high salary could cause a stumbling block in negotiations.

There won’t be many more decorated footballers linked with a move to West Ham United in January and if they can finance a move then they have to go all out to do so.

Five La Liga titles, five Copa Del Rey wins, one Champions League triumph and a Club World Cup victory all with Barcelona and the European Championships with Spain in 2012 says all you need to know about his pedigree.

Right now, the Irons are crying out for a player with that winning mentality to help get them out of trouble in the Premier League and this might be the golden opportunity to do that.

His salary might be fairly high but the Hammers need to try and take advantage of Barcelona’s frankly desperate financial situation to get themselves a bargain deal.

Aaron Cresswell and Emerson Palmieri have been fine this season at left-back but when this kind of chance comes around, the club have to take it with both hands.
