West Ham United closely follow Axel Disasi ahead of summer transfer window

West Ham United are closely following Monaco defender Axel Disasi ahead of the summer transfer window, according to French journalist, Ignazio Genuardi.

Disasi, 25, has made 31 appearances for the Ligue 1 side in the 2022/23 season, scoring three goals and registering three assists.

The Daily Mail claimed on 22 March that the defender was also wanted by Manchester United and that Monaco were looking for £44million for his services.

Genuardi, who was the former editor of Foot365, has suggested the Hammers have been monitoring the Frenchman in recent months.

“Closely followed by West Ham, who have supervised him several times in recent months,” said Genuardi (via Twitter, 18 April).

“Axel Disasi aims to join a more upscale formation next summer. Manchester United appears strongly interested in his profile.”

Unlikely

This is a move which is potentially unlikely to materialise at present. West Ham’s Premier League status isn’t secure and the lure of Manchester United could well prove too much to turn down for the defender.

He’s at an age where he will want to be playing in the Champions League alongside some of Europe’s best. Unfortunately, due to West Ham’s current situation, he would probably prefer a move to Old Trafford. If the Hammers were pushing for Europe once again, then there’s every chance they would be able to attract a play of Disasi’s quality.

West Ham United

Nonetheless, it’s promising to see some preparation from the board heading into the summer. Modern-day transfers can often be long-winded affairs so it’s no surprise to see West Ham linked with a player long before the season has finished.

If Premier League survival can be secured, another busy summer could well be in store to right the wrongs of the 2022/23 campaign.
