West Ham United close to agreeing deal for PSG goalkeeper Alphonse Areola
West Ham are “finally” close to reaching an agreement for Paris-Saint Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Guardian journalist aka transfer-guru wrote on his personal Twitter account on 23 June that talks are progressing well to sign Areola.
There is a positive feeling from the player’s side as well that the deal will go through, which is in the region of £10.3 million.
Romano wrote on Twitter: “West Ham are finally progressing in talks to sign Alphonse Areola on a permanent deal, agreement now getting closer – positive feelings on player side too. West Ham are increasingly confident as Areola deal will cost around €12m.”
Second signing on the way?
This is going to be a huge summer for the Hammers, and it seems they are heading in the right direction.
The club have already signed Nayef Aguerd, and Areola is likely to be their next signing if everything goes well.
The goalkeeper impressed heavily last season on loan. He was mainly used in the cup games while Lukasz Fabianski kept goal in the Premier League.
However, he must have been given an assurance from David Moyes that he could be competing for the first-choice position, which may have helped him in deciding his next move.
He was also targeted by Newcastle United, but the Magpies moves for Nick Pope instead which paved the way for the Hammers to reach an agreement quickly.
Areola is a reliable goalkeeper who doesn’t seem to make costly mistakes. While the terms of the deal are unknown, it is likely he will be looking at a long-term contract if he makes the move.
