West Ham United close in on Armando Broja transfer as Giancluca Scamacca exit signed

West Ham United have made their move for Chelsea striker Armando Broja and the Gianluca Scamacca loan exit may hinge on that transfer being completed, according to Roma Giallo Rossa.

Italian journalist Di Marzio reported on 9 June, that AS Roma had made contact with West Ham to sign the forward and also revealed [13 June] that Scamacca had given the okay for a return to his former club.

The Daily Mail revealed on 13 June that the Hammers have given the green light for the Italian striker to leave the London Stadium and it now seems as if West Ham have identified former transfer target Armando Broja as a replacement.

And according to Roma Giallo Rossa [19 June], West Ham are closing in on signing Broja and once that deal has been finalised, the signed loan agreement for Scamacca’s exit to Roma can officially be finalised.

Huge risk

After failing with another project signing in Scamcca, it seems as though West Ham United are attempting another in Broja.

And given his lack of playing time since his 2021/22 loan spell at Southampton and recent long injury layoff, this move represents a huge risk for the East Londoners.

The appeal is certainly there to try and sign the exciting Albanian given his tremendous qualities and potential, but the same could have been said of Scamacca when he completed his £35m switch from Sassuolo last summer.

It seems the more sensible and obvious option is to stick with the Italian for another season rather than waste money on another potential transfer risk.

West Ham United simply keep making needless and thoughtless striker signings and it certainly doesn’t look like ending with this recent development emerging.

With Chelsea’s desperate need to raise funds and comply with FFP regulations, Broja is certainly on the cusp of leaving his boyhood club, but West Ham United must steer clear of him if they aren’t confident of actually prioritising his development and affording him the time to grow.
