West Ham United: Clinton Morrison hits out at Kalvin Phillips controversy v Nottingham Forest
Clinton Morrison has hit out at Kalvin Phillips after West Ham United dropped to a 2-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest at The City Ground on Saturday 17 February.
The Hammers were chasing the game after Nayef Aguerd did little to stop Taiwo Awoniyi from opening the scoring, with Phillips being sent for an early shower for a second bookable offence.
After receiving a yellow card for a shove on Nicolas Dominguez, it only took another three minutes for Phillips to be shown another, with Thomas Bramall brandishing a red card.
Speaking live via Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday (17 February, 4:35pm), Morrison said: “He hasn’t been good enough, needs to be more sensible.
“He’s just been booked, two or three minutes ago, for pushing Dominguez. [Morgan] Gibbs-White buys the free-kick, he flicks the ball over him and Phillips catches him.
“Be a bit more street-wise. He’s been nowhere near good enough.”
Kalvin Phillips’ nightmare at West Ham United continues
Even at 1-0 down, Phillips looked to have finally found his feet at West Ham, following a string of disappointing cameos since his arrival from Manchester City.
However, any of his hard work done against Forest at The City Ground was instantly undone when receiving an incredibly stupid red card for his challenge on Gibbs-White.
There is no doubt that an England call-up will have been at the forefront of his mind when looking to seal a loan move away from the Premier League champions in January, and any hope of that should have diminished now.

In two starts for the Hammers so far, Phillips has been red-carded and was directly involved in Dominic Solanke’s third-minute opener for Bournemouth.
Those appearances, combined with two cameos against Manchester United and Arsenal, leave Phillips with a long way back in David Moyes’ team. And with the player set to miss their next match, he will not be able to make up for his mistakes anytime soon.
