West Ham United chief David Sullivan rejects talkSPORT request, reason shared

Jim White has revealed the reasoning behind West Ham United owner David Sullivan refusing to go on talkSPORT.

The host shared the reason live on the radio network (6 August, 10:29) when discussing the Hammers chief and the club’s transfer business in general.

West Ham have been one of the most active Premier League sides in the transfer window this summer as Sullivan marked down a statement of intent and backed Julen Lopetegui.

However, White mentioned that Sullivan has turned down requests to appear on his show.

“David Sullivan often says to me ‘I’m not coming on because I’ll just get hammered’,” White said.

West Ham fans won’t “hammer” David Sullivan right now

West Ham have made their intentions known to the Premier League with quality additions such as Max Kilman, Crysencio Summerville, Niclas Fullkrug and Guido Rodriguez all arriving in East London this summer.

Sullivan has taken a step in the right direction to earn back the supporters’ full trust with the summer business, putting in the groundwork to repair a once rocky relationship.

The fans marked the tenth anniversary of Sullivan’s ownership with a staged protest before a Premier League match against Everton in 2020 (Sky Sports).

Since then, the Hammers have had a deep run in the Europa League and won their first-ever European trophy with the Europa Conference League triumph in 2023.

Now, it is Lopetegui’s priority to ensure West Ham finish the 2024/25 season in the top eight and restore European football to the London Stadium.

Overnight, the Irons have transformed from a side that looked destined for another midtable finish to a side capable of challenging towards the top end of the Premier League table. That is all down to Sullivan backing his side.

The Conference League win has whet the lips of West Ham fans and no longer will midtable security suffice for the side.

Lopetegui has a monumental task ahead of him with the sides who finished above the Hammers last season continuing to strengthen, but a European finish is possible as the side looks stronger by the day.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are still expected to sign another Premier League defender after landing a trio of additions further forward.
