West Ham United change v Leeds United now confirmed in Premier League

West Ham will now play host to Leeds United on Sunday 21 May with the fixture change confirmed by the official club website.

The game has been put back from the original Saturday slot, in what is the penultimate match of the Premier League season and the last in east London.

At present, just two points separate the clubs in the table at 15th and 16th place, respectively, although the Hammers have a game in hand.

The update was provided on Thursday afternoon, much to the dismay of many fans.

“West Ham United’s home Premier League match against Leeds United will now be played on Sunday 21 May,” it was confirmed.

“The London Stadium fixture has been chosen for live broadcast in the UK by Sky Sports and will kick-off at 1.30pm BST.”

Double commitments

The game has been put back from the original Saturday afternoon slot, but given the Europa Conference League campaign, it was always likely to happen.

The Europa Conference League quarter-final second leg is set to take place on Thursday 18 May making the game against the Whites an obvious choice for Sky, especially as it could well be a relegation showdown.

On that front, eight games remain to secure top-flight football at the London Stadium. Just three at home and the other five on the road.

The double commitments will hopefully continue with David Moyes’ side striving to go all the way to the final in Prague on 07 June but a few obstacles are in the way first.

Last season, the club became accustomed to the balancing act of Europa League games on a Thursday being followed by the bread and butter of the Premier League on a Sunday.

Saturday fixtures are much preferred by most but unfortunately, this is a price to pay for progress in Europe.
