West Ham United boss Julen Lopetegui comments stun Sky Sports host live on air, ‘Wow’
Julen Lopetegui’s admission that West Ham United deserved to lose against Tottenham left Sky Sports host Rob Wotton surprised live on air.
The Hammers started well at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday [19 October] as Mohammed Kudus opened the scoring for the visitors.
However, Dejan Kulusevski equalised shortly after before the Irons capitulated as Yves Bissouma and Son Heung-min scored either side of Alphonse Areola’s own goal in an eight-minute spell in the second half.
Lopetegui accepted his side were second best and said United’s form is a “concern”, to which Wotton reacted with surprise when reading the comments live on Sky Sports [21 October, 12:35pm].
He said: “Julen Lopetegui said his side deserved to lose. Wow.”
Julen Lopetegui is on borrowed time at West Ham United
While no West Ham supporter will disagree with Lopetegui’s verdict, his words paint the picture of a man defeated in East London.
The Spaniard has flattered to deceive with his appointment – he was supposed to breathe a new lease of life into the Hammers but instead has left supporters questioning whether it was the right decision to part ways with David Moyes.
Regardless, the Irons must reap what they sow, and with Mohammed Kudus now facing a lengthy suspension for inciting a brawl with Micky van de Ven [The Mirror], it is about to get much harder for Lopetegui to turn around the fortunes of his side.

Lopetegui showing a bit of self-awareness is hardly a negative, but instead of pointing out the obvious, he must find a way to get the Hammers back to winning ways and playing to the level we all know the side is capable of.
The upcoming matches before the November international break will ultimately decide his West Ham future. This is where he must put the excuses aside and prove to the club he is still the right man to lead the side.
In other West Ham news, the Irons’ final Premier League position has been predicted by a supercomputer in a new relegation verdict.
