West Ham United boost after Serie CEO Gianluca Scamacca update

Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali’s latest update is a big boost for West Ham United’s pursuit of Italian striker Gianluca Scamacca.

According to 90min on 22 June, the Hammers had contacted the Italian club over a potential move for the in-form striker.

It has since been suggested by Carnevali that there has been “interest” in the 23-year-old from unnamed clubs from abroad.

Carnevali said [quoted by Fabrizio Romano 30 June]: “We had no contact with PSG in the last 10 days for this Scamacca deal.

“Also, I can say that there are no talks with Serie A clubs.

“We could have contacts with other clubs from abroad for Scamacca, there’s interest.”

If West Ham did manage to pull off a move for Scamacca then it would be one of the biggest coups of the summer.

The 23-year-old Italian striker scored 16 times in Serie A in the 2021/22 season and has become one of Europe’s most in-demand strikers.

We all know that West Ham get linked to their fair share of strikers, so putting two and two together, in this case, makes sense.

It is a big boost for the Hammers to hear of a lack of interest from European clubs in Scamacca and could well pave the way for the Hammers to mount a surmountable challenge for the 23-year-old.

Regardless of whether the Italian is a prime target for David Moyes, the West Ham boss desperately needs to add to his striking options in the coming weeks.

With Moyes already strengthening his defence with Nayef Aguerd and Alphonse Areola, it is now time for the West Ham boss to bring some attacking additions into the London Stadium.
