West Ham United board stance on Luis Guilherme transfer emerges as deal nears completion
West Ham United’s board have fully backed Tim Steidten’s decision to sign Luis Guilherme, according to Sean Whetstone.
The journalist reported via his X account West Ham Football (8 June) that everything is ready for the Irons to complete the signing of the 18-year-old Palmeiras winger for an initial £19.5million fee this summer.
In the future, the Irons could have to pay £6million worth of add-ons and the Brazilian side will have a 20 per cent sell-on clause on any future transfer, but Steidten picked out Guilherme as a target this summer.
Writing on X, Whetstone said: “Everything in place for West Ham to sign Brazilian winger Luis Guilherme from Palmeira next week.
“The 18-year-old is a Tim Steidten pick which has the full backing of the board and head coach Julen Lopetegui.”
Have West Ham United signed Luis Guilherme in the summer transfer window at the London Stadium?
Whether it be under David Moyes, or since the appointment of Lopetegui at the London Stadium, there have always been suggestions that Steidten and those around him at the club may not have enjoyed the best relationship.
It had even been reported that while the Irons’ technical director was in Brazil trying to get this transfer over the line, David Sullivan had pulled the plug on the deal himself because he wasn’t willing to pay the fee required [HITC, 3 June].
Such suggestions now appear to be wide of the mark and it feels as though everybody in the football club is now pulling in the same direction to try and make this as successful a summer as possible ahead of next season.
Hopefully, the deal to bring Guilherme to West Ham will be completed without any late hiccups or hijacks.
It seems as though the Irons could have a very exciting talent on their hands who could really impress in the Premier League.
