West Ham United board ready to sack David Moyes and hire ‘exceptional’ Vincent Kompany

West Ham United’s board are ready to replace David Moyes with Burnley manager Vincent Kompany, according to TEAMtalk.

The former Manchester City defender has enjoyed a sensational debut season as a manager, with Pep Guardiola suggesting his style of play is “exceptional” (The Mirror, 23 April).

TEAM talk sources now claim (22 April) that the Hammers board are admirers of the 37-year-old and that they’re keeping tabs on his situation at Burnley.

The Guardian claim (19 April) Lille boss, Paulo Fonseca is also being considered by the board should they decide to part company with the Scot.

Innovative

Kompany has worked wonders with the Championship side, but there are a couple of things to consider. Firstly, the second tier has been considerably weaker compared to previous seasons. Secondly, the 37-year-old is unproven managing in the Premier League.

The top flight can be a completely different beast. Kompany would be far better off remaining at the Lancashire club and developing himself and his impressive team further.

At present, talk of Moyes being given the sack has died down slightly. The Scot has been under criticism for much of the season but has managed to turn things around over the past week with a memorable win over Gent and a well-earned draw against Arsenal.

Despite the upturn in form, the Hammers are still in danger and will need to ensure they don’t revert back to type against Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon (22 April). Gary O’Neil’s side have been excellent of late and West Ham will need to be at their best.

A run of wins and a positive end to the season will leave the board with a tough decision to make come the end of the 2022/23 campaign.
