West Ham United: Ben Johnson and Aaron Cresswell pick up new muscle strains
West Ham United duo Aaron Cresswell and Ben Johnson have both picked up new muscle strains, according to ExWHUemployee this week.
The defensive duo will both miss out against FCSB in the Europa Conference League, with no word on how long they could be missing from the action.
The reliable source has shared that David Moyes is stuck with the dilemma of who to pick, and how to rotate his squad as the busy schedule really starts to kick in.
Writing on the West Ham Way Patreon page, Ex shared the early team news ahead of the Conference League getting underway for the Irons.
“David Moyes has the usual dilemmas of injuries and rotations to contemplate this week,” he wrote.
“Both full backs Ben Johnson and Aaron Cresswell will miss today’s match with strains. The game also comes too soon for Craig Dawson even though he is back in training now.
“During his press conference, the manager also revealed that Tomas Soucek sustained a knock against Chelsea so there are doubts over his selection.”
Problem.
Moyes did confirm that both Johnson and Cresswell would miss out, but there was no information on the actual problems, with that now being brought into the light.
The real issue could be if these are bad muscle strains which could lead to both missing out for numerous weeks, with our lack of full-backs potentially becoming frightening.
It could give the perfect chance to Harrison Ashby to prove himself through after all the drama of the transfer deadline last week.
A move to Newcastle is still said to look inevitable with a new contract unlikely, although more exposure in the first-team starting tonight in Europe and then potentially into the Premier League, could make him think again.
West Ham United and Moyes are in a sticky position, but that should still be no excuse to the fact that we should walk through this game quite easily.
Of course, no European game is easy, but the Irons can make it as hard as they like with their performance, so let’s hope none of this news has disrupted the build up.
