West Ham United back out of move for Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma

West Ham United have backed out of a move for Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma, according to 90min.

It had been reported by The Daily Mail on Thursday 30 June that talks were processing positively over a deal for the 26-year-old.

However, 90min has since reported [30 June] that the Hammers have concerns over whether the Villarreal man is the right fit for the club moving forward and suggested the Irons have backed out of a potential move.

TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook also reported on his personal Twitter account on 30 June that the Hammers are unlikely to pursue their interest in Danjuma with Moyes preferring other targets, with Jesse Lingard mentioned.

Things moving fast

It seemed as if West Ham’s move for the 25-year-old had really gathered pace throughout Wednesday [29 June], however, it appears it was a short-lived pursuit.

Danjuma would’ve been a marquee addition for David Moyes and West Ham but there is clearly an issue with the Dutch international which has seen the West Ham boss step away from the deal.

£37.5million is a considerable fee for the Hammers to pay.

There is no doubting Danjuma’s talent, with the winger scoring 16 times for the Spanish side, including six times in the Champions League.

Moyes may well feel that he can secure a better value deal for another one of his targets.

West Ham

It would not be a surprise to see the Hammers really up their pursuit of Lingard in the coming days after easing their interest in Danjuma.

90min reported on June 28 that Moyes was “pushing hard” for the club to secure a deal for the England international.

The West Ham boss may have struggled to secure a deal for the 29-year-old had he moved for the Villarreal winger.

Whether it will be the right decision remains to be seen.
