West Ham United back on trail of Stade Rennes striker Gaetan Laborde

West Ham United are now back in the race to sign Stade Rennes striker Gaetan Laborde, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

The 28-year-old was the subject of a bid from the Hammers last summer [Le 10 Sport] while he was at Montpellier but he chose to make the switch to Rennes instead of the London Stadium.

His goal-scoring form has continued though and after 17 goals last season in all competitions, he is now a hot topic once again for a number of clubs.

West Ham

Along with West Ham, Newcastle United are also keen on bringing him to the Premier League while Sevilla and Lille are also very interested in the 28-year-old.

His availability comes as Rennes have now signed Arnaud Kalimuendo from Paris Saint-Germain which opens the door for either Laborde or teammate Martin Terrier – who is also of interest to the Hammers [L’Equipe] – to leave the club.

Goal shy

David Moyes has seen his side play three Premier League and not yet celebrated a goal from the dugout and he can’t let it carry on any longer.

Whether the club need another new striker having already signed Gianluca Scamacca to go along with Michail Antonio this summer is debatable as the number nines are not getting the chances they need.

West Ham

Laborde is another player who would fall into that category of strikers who need the service and with only set-pieces being a particular threat at the moment, it isn’t a centre forward that should be the priority.

Instead, West Ham need to be in the market for a creative attacking midfielder or winger (preferably both) to start putting the ball on a plate for the attackers rather than asking them to complete an assault course to have the chance to shoot.

Whatever the solution ends up being, Moyes had better be sure it’s the right one to avoid a very embarrassing season.
