West Ham United: Aston Villa make Tomas Soucek transfer decision

Aston Villa have pulled out of the race to sign West Ham United midfielder Tomas Soucek this summer, according to Ashley Preece.

The Czech Republic international was reported to be on the radar of the Villains by The Sun on 24 June as Steven Gerrard tries to make vast improvements to his side before the 2022-23 Premier League season kicks off.

But Preece, a journalist for Birmingham Live, believes that there are no signs of an impending move from the Midlands club to sign our midfield dynamo.

West Ham

“No interest in Soucek, so I’m told,” Preece said in reply to a comment during a Q&A session on Birmingham Live to quash any chance of the 27-year-old heading to Villa Park this summer.

West Ham aren’t out of the woods yet though with Newcastle United and Everton also in the race to sign Soucek although both deals have their own complications to go with it.

Going nowhere

All this talk is getting a bit irrelevant now because it seems more and more likely that he’s going to stay unless a seriously good offer comes in for him from a club in European competition

Newcastle and Everton are never likely to be able to prize him away from the London Stadium with the Toffees especially unlikely having only just kept their heads above water last season.

West Ham

Soucek wants to play in Europe’s biggest competitions and right now, he can only have a chance to do that at West Ham United so to leave now would be a foolish decision on his part.

David Moyes needs to have a word with the big Czech and remind him how good he has it here and that, as the cliche goes, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

We have the potential to not only challenge for a top-four place in the Premier League but also for trophies both domestically and on the continent this season which is why Soucek has to stay for the good of his own career.
