West Ham United: Andy Dunn drops Euro 2024 verdict on ‘old school’ England ace Jarrod Bowen
By Brendan McGilligan
West Ham ace Jarrod Bowen is an “old school” talent who should be included in England’s Euro 2024 squad, according to journalist Andy Dunn.
The versatile forward was part of the Three Lions side that drew 2-2 against Belgium at Wembley on Tuesday (March 26) and was denied a first goal for his nation by a correct VAR call in the first half.
Bowen faces plenty of competition for a spot in Gareth Southgate’s party for the tournament in Germany this summer but Dunn – the Mirror’s chief sports writer – is convinced the former Hull City player should be on the plane.
“Unlike a lot of attacking talents at Southgate’s disposal, Bowen looks a natural on the right flank,” he wrote in the Mirror’s print edition on Wednesday (27 March, page 56).
“He also gets through his fair share of defensive work, which is a major mark when you are taking a Southgate test.
“His contribution to this match, complementing his fine club form this time around, should ensure Bowen makes it to Germany this summer.
“Sometimes, it is hard to rank Bowen’s qualities, tough to land on his particular strength. Put quite simply, he is a player who makes things happen, often in an old school manner.”
Should West Ham ace Jarrod Bowen be going to Euro 2024 with England?
Bowen had been in the pre-tournament squad prior to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar but, in the end, Southgate decided to take the attacking options of Raheem Sterling and Callum Wilson.
However, despite the heartbreak of not being selected for a World Cup squad, Bowen has used this to fuel his performances and lodge himself firmly in the England squad.
Last night was his seventh cap and that number will surely grow if he continues his club form. The winger has scored 18 goals in his 36 games to this point this season.

There is a lot of competition for places on the right-hand side of the England attack, with Bukayo Saka, Anthony Gordon, and Phil Foden all capable of playing this position.
Southgate will have a difficult decision to make when selecting his squad, particularly with the talent upfront for the Three Lions.
But Bowen has helped his cause with last night’s performance to add to the incredible season he is having for the Hammers, and his qualities make him an excellent option for the Three Lions.
In other West Ham news, Gareth Southgate wanted to select a Hammers teammate of Bowen’s for his latest squad.
