West Ham United and Liverpool get Ruben Amorim answer after ‘Controversial’ London trip
Ruben Amorim will not be the next manager at West Ham United or Liverpool after his trip to London on Monday 22 April, according to Record.
Writing on their website (23 April), the Portuguese news outlet reports that the Sporting CP coach has decided that his immediate future lies away from the Premier League.
Amorim returned to Lisbon in the early hours of Tuesday 23 April after “something went wrong” in talks with West Ham, and he has now opted to look at alternative options.
“Ruben Amorim will not be on the bench for Liverpool or West Ham next season,” they wrote.
“From what Record learned, from a source close to the coach, this is the only certainty that is on the table after the controversial lightning trip to the United Kingdom, and which is still shrouded in secrecy.”
West Ham United dealt blow amid David Moyes exit update
The Hammers look to have finally made the decision to let Moyes leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season, and that’s a positive start to the summer.
Whether you agree with the choice or not, the club needed to offer clarity to the situation for fans, Moyes and the players for the final games of the season to avoid total capitulation.
The idea of moving for Amorim, someone who is on the verge of winning a league title in Portugal once again, showed great ambition and quality planning too.
But being potentially rejected less than 24 hours after holding talks with him is rather embarrassing and will be a blow to the club, although they are also very keen on several other options.
It will be interesting to see where he ends up now, but more interesting to see what direction the club go in after him. If it’s a totally different direction tactically, then questions will be asked about what the board actually want.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers have made an offer to Amorim that was “considerably higher” than Liverpool’s.
