West Ham United and Aston Villa want to sign Lens defender Facundo Medina

West Ham are reportedly in a heated transfer battle with a number of clubs to secure the services of Lens centre-back Facundo Medina.

According to AS Roma Live [12 March], the other Premier League sides keen on roping in the Argentina international are Aston Villa, Brighton as well as Leeds United.

The Ligue 1 side value the centre-back a little over £25million and £31million is the upper limit and will be enough to sign the 23-year-old.

Lens even received a bid for him in January from an English club, but turned it down.

Worth signing?

The 23-year-old appears to be an expensive acquisition in a position that the Hammers do not need any strengthening in.

They’ve got bigger issues when Declan Rice leaves as they will have to find a replacement for him and there’s nobody in the market they can afford.

It’s going to require a rebuilding job and one perhaps David Moyes will not be ready for or even at the club in order to accomplish.

Medina seems to be a good defender and his versatility makes him an interesting option but we do not see the Hammers prioritising his signing just as yet.

Right now, their focus will be on achieving enough points to avoid relegation as there’s a very good chance they get sucked right into a battle in the final days of the season.

Things need to change quickly on that front and Moyes may be running out of time at the London Stadium.
