West Ham United: Ally McCoist lauds Kurt Zouma in ‘danger’ moment v Tottenham

Ally McCoist praised Kurt Zouma after the defender scored the equaliser for West Ham during a 1-1 draw with Tottenham at the London Stadium on Tuesday (2 April).

Spurs opened the scoring after just five minutes, as Timo Werner slid the ball across for Brennan Johnson to poke home, but David Moyes will have been very pleased with the reaction from his team.

It took just 14 minutes for the Hammers to find an equaliser, with the Frenchman powering a header past Guglielmo Vicario after a brilliant corner from Jarrod Bowen.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Wednesday (3 April, 7:09am), McCoist said: “Kurt Zouma is a danger. The first thing you have to say is it’s a great ball in, great ball into that area.

“They flood it with numbers and crowd the area to make it difficult for the goalkeeper. You’d have done the same, did you? Of course, you would. That’s what I used to do. I’d hover about the goalkeeper and then come off him.”

Has Kurt Zouma proven his critics wrong at West Ham United?

Zouma will be the first to admit that the current season has not been brilliant for him. The defender has been far from his best, causing plenty of frustration for fans and members of the media.

Despite this, the 29-year-old remains the club captain under Moyes, and like any good leader, he has pushed hard to improve and claimed one of the most important moments during the match.

In addition to notching his third Premier League goal of the campaign, Zouma was exemplary in defence, keeping Spurs from adding to their early opener.

West Ham
West Ham are set to say goodbye to Kurt Zouma.

Especially after the capitulation against Newcastle United on Saturday 30 March, gaining a point against fifth-placed Spurs will have been an extremely important boost for the Hammers ahead of the end-of-season run-in.

A top-six finish is certainly still a possible target this season, with Manchester United only three points ahead in the Premier League table. However, Newcastle, Brighton and Wolves are hot on their heels.

In other West Ham news, a new centre-back transfer is on the cards at the London Stadium.
