West Ham United ace Lukasz Fabianski could be out for the rest of the season with injury

Lukasz Fabianski could miss the rest of the West Ham season with a fracture eye socket and cheekbone injury, according to The Sun.

The Polish veteran suffered a knee to the head from Nottingham Forest defender Felipe during the 4-0 win at the London Stadium at the weekend, and will miss the trip to Old Trafford as he looks to recover.

But now it has been reported that he could in fact miss the rest of the season with the club yet to decide if he will undergo surgery or let it heal naturally.

“Lukasz Fabianski could be out for the rest of the season after fracturing a cheekbone and eye-socket,” they wrote (28 February).

Blow

West Ham fans have been calling for Alphonse Areola to get a run in the team as the number one goalkeeper for a while, but not through an injury.

Fabianski has been a reliable number one for several years, and it’s absolutely not a good thing for him to be injured seriously at this stage of his career.

His contract with West Ham is set to expire at the end of the season, meaning he may have played his last game for the club already, although there is an option to extend that deal by a further 12 months.

This is now a great opportunity for Areola to push his own claim for the number one shirt, having signed a long-term contract in the summer for the prime years of his career to come in and be first-choice.

He’s now expected to get a run of games for the first time and can prove the fans right for wanting him in to begin with, but hopefully Fabianski will be back available soon to push him because we need everyone together to battle against the drop.
