West Ham United ace Edson Alvarez responds to AC Milan transfer links amid recent interest
West Ham United ace Edson Alvarez has admitted “there will be rumours” after being asked about transfer interest from AC Milan.
The Daily Mirror reported ((8 October, page 57) that the Rossoneri have identified the Mexico international for a January transfer and are willing to offer Ruben Loftus-Cheek in exchange.
Alvarez, who joined in the summer of 2023 in Ajax, has now responded to those reports, saying it is proof that he is doing something right on the pitch.
“Well, if you are in this environment, there will be rumours for both you and us. And well, I think that, as they say, it is synonymous with the fact that you are doing things well, that they are looking at you,” he said to TV Azteca Deportes (14 October).
“I simply use it to my advantage. In the sense of continuing to do what I am doing, trying to improve and well, increase my confidence”.
West Ham United might weigh up Edson Alvarez offer
The summer transfer window saw West Ham’s team change significantly. Many players such as Max Kilman and Rodriguez were brought in while others such as Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd were allowed to leave.
It was clear that the Hammers wanted a fresh start this season. David Moyes’ contract expired which resulted in the club appointing Julen Lopetegui – a decision that was not met with resounding supporter among the fanbase, even though many felt it was time for a change
West Ham currently find themselves 12th in the Premier League table, three spots below where they finished last season.
Alvarez has been one of the many players linked with a London Stadium exit recently with AC Milan being one of the main teams interested in acquiring the Mexican’s services [Daily Mirror, 8 October, page 57].
Nothing has come to fruition just yet but you do wonder if the Hammers might see him as a player the could allow to depart.
On his day he can be a very useful player but with plenty of options in the engine room and an extensive recruitment drive in the summer, it might be they see an opportunity to rake back some cash.
