West Ham United ace Declan Rice responds to new contract offer as 'standoff' develops

West Ham star man Declan Rice has rejected the Hammers’ new contract offer and is keeping his options open, according to Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol.

The England international has now turned down his fourth contract offer from the club amid interest from several clubs.

Despite being offered a lucrative eight-year deal worth £83million, Rice is reluctant to commit his future to the Irons with a standoff now developing between the club and player.

He said as per Football Daily: “West Ham have offered him a new deal and the new deal would make him the best-paid player in the history of West Ham United.

“The new deal they offered him – eight-year deal worth £200,000 a week and if you add that all up it comes to an investment of £83million.

“West Ham were willing to offer him this eight-year contract worth £83million and he has refused to sign that contract.

“He is keeping his options open at the moment – we know there are a lot of clubs interested in signing him for instance Chelsea, Manchester United.

“As far as West Ham United are concerned, they are not going to sell him this summer.”

He added: “They are planning on having more talks with him when the transfer window closes on the 1st of September.

“It could be that we have a bit of standoff developing between the player and the club.”

Give up.

West Ham obviously needs to get the message from Rice – he doesn’t want to stay. If he has just turned down a contract offer why on earth would he change his mind a mere matter of weeks later?

As hard as it may be for the club and the fans to accept, he doesn’t want to be playing his football in east London any more – at least not in the long run anyway.

They can throw as much money as they want at him and that isn’t going to change.

Throwing an eight-year deal into the mix is a shocking approach also. The 23-year-old has serious aspirations for his career and if the Hammers aren’t fulfilling that now amid their best season in recent history, who is to say they will still be competing for Champions League football in a decade’s time.

Of course, that is the plan but it is far from a certainty and the nature of this deal is likely to make the midfielder want to run a mile.

In other West Ham news, Richard Keys claims that West Ham are willing to sell one of their stars to a Premier League giant under one condition.
