Commentator makes West Ham United supporter ‘whinge’ jibe after win over Wolves

Commentator Matt Davies-Adams insists David Moyes is justified in the way he often sets out his West Ham side, despite criticism from his own fans.

Supporters have grown frustrated with Moyes’ pragmatic approach to certain Premier League games this season.

That was not the case on Sunday (17 December), however, as the Irons ran out 3-0 winners against Wolves at London Stadium.

Victory for West Ham moved them up to eighth in the Premier League, while they are also through to the last 16 of the Europa League.

Speaking on the Totally Football Show podcast [18 December, 25m 43s], Davies-Adams said: “Most of the West Ham fans seem to love a whinge about David Moyes’ conservatism to Premier League games.

“But look at their results post-European games, compared to Brighton say… and how West Ham struggled to manage the two last season, compared to where they are now.

“They’re way away from where they were last season in the Premier League and won their Europa League group at a canter.”

Keep winning

The mood around London Stadium is seemingly changing with each passing week. Seven days ago, Moyes was being vilified on the back of the 5-0 loss at Fulham.

Now, some are seriously wondering why the Scotsman is being allowed to enter the final six months of his contract when United are on course for another successful season.

In truth, there is a happy medium to be found. Moyes is not a dreadful manager on the back of losing a game, and nor is he the greatest manager who ever lived after an impressive performance.

West Ham

What must be remembered after those negative results, though, is that Moyes’ style does work over the long term. The five-goal defeat at Craven Cottage hurt, but it was just a blip in the road.

Sometimes you have to take a step back and realise West Ham are into the latter stages of the Europa League, EFL Cup and are well positioned in the Premier League.

As long as Moyes keep winning games, his naysayers will be nowhere to be seen.

In other West Ham news, Mohammed Kudus reportedly sought assurances from United that he would get the chance to play with one player prior to signing.
