West Ham told to appoint Michael Carrick amid Nuno Espirito Santo sack latest
Nuno Espirito Santo is edging closer to losing his job at the London Stadium, while West Ham has been mooted as a potential landing spot for Michael Carrick.
It’s a potential make-or-break week in West Ham’s season, and that could involve relieving Nuno of his duties after just four months in charge.
West Ham were humiliated 3-0 by bottom-side Wolves on Saturday, a result that pushed the Portuguese closer to the sack and the Hammers closer to the Championship.
As a result, reports have suggested that Nuno has one more game to save his job, and that is a relegation six-pointer against former club Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.
Don Hutchison says West Ham should appoint Michael Carrick
Heading into their home showdown against the Tricky Trees, only four points separate the Irons from them in 18th position.
So, if Forest come away with a victory, they will open up a seven-point gap, while a win for West Ham closes the deficit to just a single point.
I would appoint Michael Carrick with the view of keeping West Ham up or worst case scenario prepare for the championship.

Big call for the board this one! https://t.co/Fjf4QXxLTP
But with every chance of achieving survival by recording victory, many have already written off their chances, and Don Hutchison thinks West Ham should appoint former midfielder Michael Carrick in preparation for the Championship.

Carrick has emerged as a possible contender to replace Nuno at the London Stadium. The 44-year-old has been out of work since June, following his dismissal from Middlesbrough after he failed to achieve a top-six finish last term.
The Englishman did, however, guide Boro to fourth place in 2022/23 before they finished in eighth and 10th, respectively, in 2023/24 and 2024/25.
Carrick has already praised West Ham
Hutchison’s verdict on the Hammers appointing Carrick suggests they should already throw the towel in surviving and focus on the next campaign.
Ultimately, the former Manchester United midfielder has never managed in the Premier League, and it would be a huge risk to hand him the job.
Speaking in October following their win over Newcastle United, Carrick praised the ‘talent’ at West Ham on Match of the Day.
“You’ve got to share the loads for both ways, there’s certainly talent there, confidence is a huge thing game to game, in terms of form, that can be a big thing,” Carrick said.
“As a player, you can never lose that belief deep within yourself, but they deserved it today and created enough to win the game by far.”
Carrick also praised young midfielder Freddie Potts, who, like himself, made his mark at West Ham as a youngster.
He added: “He [Potts] was a massive plus for West Ham. The biggest thing for me was how he just fit in and played his position with real understanding.”
