West Ham to speed up contract talks with Ben Johnson

West Ham are set to accelerate contract talks for Ben Johnson after his fantastic start to the season.

Claret & Hugh report that an inside source has told them that the Irons are set to open talks with the 21-year-old before the end of the season.

The Hammers have a two-year option inserted into the “fabulous” right-back’s current deal, but it seems as if they are going to act much quicker than that and tie him down to a proper deal.

The source told Claret & Hugh: “We have a two-year option, but we’ll talk before [the] end of [the] season and probably a lot sooner.”

Good news for Johnson and the Irons.

Johnson was drafted into the side to fill in for the injured Vladimir Coufal, but he has been fantastic, and you would have to say that he has forced David Moyes into a decision.

Does he stick with Johnson, or does he put Coufal back in?

You would have to say that if Johnson [were] dropped for the Czech international, that would be very harsh on the right-back, but then again, Coufal has been superb for the Irons since he joined.

So, Moyes has a dilemma, which is a good thing, but it will mean that one of Johnson or Coufal is left disappointed.

However, it is great to hear that the Irons are planning on opening contract talks with Johnson, and we look forward to seeing how the talks progress.

You would think it would be a very easy deal to sort out, as surely Johnson wants to stay at the London Stadium and play for the Irons while they continue to rise up the league.

The 21-year-old looks like he has a massive future ahead of him and could quite easily be the Hammers’ number one right-back for a long time to come.

So let us all hope the club sort this deal out.
