West Ham to bid £10m for Agustin Marchesin – report

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, West Ham are keen on signing FC Porto goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin this summer.

The report reveals that the 33-year-old is desired by Hammers boss David Moyes – who is keen on bringing the Argentine to the London Stadium next month.

Recent reports have suggested that goalkeeper and striker are two priorities for the Hammers in the coming months, and Marchesin could be one of the incomings.

The Argentine has impressed in the Champions League this season and has gone on to make 43 appearances in all competitions.

He has firmly established himself as the first-choice keeper for the Portuguese giants and is understood to have a release clause of €50m (£42m).

However, West Ham believe that they can strike a deal and are of the opinion that €12m (£10m) would be enough to tempt the Portuguese club into selling.

It’s a fee that they are comfortable to spend if they are to sign the Argentine in this transfer window.

Marchesin

Good deal

If we are to take the prices they’re reporting at face value, then getting a player of his calibre and experience for £10m is an absolute steal.

It’s no secret that our goalkeeping depth needs massive reinforcements. Marchesin will not only address that area, but will also push Lukasz Fabianski for the number one role.

It may take some convincing to do, but if the Hammers can offer him the right salary and Moyes can sell the club project to him, there’s a good chance that he walks through the door at the London Stadium in a few months

This season has been one of Marchesin’s best in a Porto jersey. He’s conceded only 35 goals in all competitions from an expected goals conceded total of 44.64. He also averages 2.2 saves per game with a save success rate of 60 percent. [Wyscout]

He may not be the youngest of keepers, but he’s certainly a quality shot-stopper who would strengthen our side.
