West Ham Super Fans thrilled as Angelo Ogbonna nears contract extension

West Ham defender Angelo Ogbonna is close to signing a new deal at the club, according to Italian media outlet Calciomercato.

The 33-year-old recently suffered from an ACL injury, but talks had started way before he sustained this blow.

His current deal expires at the end of the season, and by the looks of it, he will be staying on for at least another year.

Hammers fans on Facebook were ecstatic with this news as they see him as an influential presence on and off the pitch.

Despite his age, there is a general feeling of joy that this won’t be his last season at the club.

Here’s what they said:

Deserves it

Ogbonna could be ruled out for the rest of the season, so if he doesn’t sign a new deal, there’s a good chance he’s played his last game for the club.

That wouldn’t be the right way to bid farewell to someone who’s been the backbone of this defence for the last few years.

He’s played an important role in making the Hammers a top six club and the least they can do is keep him on for another season.

Whether or not he’ll be the first choice under David Moyes is anyone’s guess, but the Italian is an important presence to be kept at the club.
