Danny Ings has reportedly turned down an extension at Southampton, amid transfer interest from West Ham.

According to the BBC, Ings rejected a new deal at St. Mary’s as he’s looking to test himself at a higher level.

He currently has 12 months left on his contract, and the Saints could be forced into cashing in on him if he’s no closer to penning an extension.

According to The Athletic, West Ham are among a handful Premier League clubs keen on signing him.

Give their lack of numbers in attack, it’s not surprising that Ings has emerged as a target for the Hammers.

His turning down a new contract is a boost for the London side as they could look to capitalise on the fact that he’s keen on an exit and bring him to the capital this summer.

While fans are in awe of the player’s quality and happy to be linked with him, they did not omit the fact that he tends to get injured pretty frequently.

Here’s what they said.

Given our desperation to sign a striker, it won’t be surprising if Ings emerges as our primary transfer target. He’s Premier League proven, delivers numbers every season and is an upgrade on the options we have currently at the club.

His injury record is the main thing that could see the club hierarchy distance themselves from the player.

We’ve already got Michail Antonio who is very injury prone so having another player like him could be problematic.

That being said, he still managed to play 29 Premier League games last season so his fitness levels aren’t as bad as people seem to think.

For the right price, Ings could be worth a punt and let’s see whether we pursue his services this summer.
