West Ham Super Fans deliver verdict on dip in Craig Dawson form

This is part of a regular series from our panel of West Ham Super Fans. Each week, our Super Fans will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around the London Stadium.

Craig Dawson was heralded for his performances at West Ham not so long ago but in recent weeks, it would be fair to say the defender has suffered a major slump to his form.

The 30-year-old was sent off on Saturday as the Hammers lost 3-2 to Newcastle at St James’ Park. He’s also scored own goals against Manchester United and Arsenal, as well as being part of a defence that’s conceded 10 times in his last four Premier League starts.

When Dawson joined us on loan from Watford, supporters of the Championship club seemed to be delighted they had palmed the centre-back off on another team.

We all thought those Watford fans turned out to be wrong based on the start of Dawson’s stint as a West Ham player but in recent weeks, the cracks that have appeared have exposed some major flaws to his game.

We asked our panel of Super Fans to decide whether Watford fans were right and that Dawson is a complete dud who just had a few good months or whether he simply had a bad time at Vicarage Road and is just suffering a dip at the London Stadium.

Here is what they had to say:

Dawson, on the whole, has been superb.

He and Angelo Ogbonna were imperious in the defence Ogbonna has been out injured up until the game at Newcastle.

We’ve had a lot of injuries and Declan Rice’s absence is also causing more issues than what was first led on.

Let’s hope that Dawson can come back better than ever once his one-match ban is served because we definitely need him to help see out a spot in Europe for next season.

In other West Ham news, this Hammers-linked striker has been left out of a matchday squad this weekend.
