West Ham sources share new Crysencio Summerville injury update, could be ‘massive blow’

West Ham are sweating to find out the severity of Crysencio Summerville’s injury setback.

Just as the Hammers have given their fans some belief about their chances of staying in the Premier League, they could lose their star player.

Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed his winger sustained a knock during West Ham‘s penalty shootout FA Cup win over Brentford at the London Stadium on Monday, but hopes it’s nothing too serious.

However, there seems to be some serious concern behind the scenes that Summerville could now be out for a large period.

Alex Crook reveals West Ham ‘concern’ as Crysencio Summerville set for scan

Summerville was initially benched against the Bees, as Nuno looked for ways to advance to the Quarter-final of the FA Cup without risking all of his best players.

But the West Ham boss decided to turn to the 24-year-old at halftime, who then played until the 120th minute for the Irons, despite carrying a suspected injury.

Nuno may face some heavy criticism if the Hammers’ worst nightmare comes true.

While speaking on talkSPORT this Tuesday, Alex Crook confirmed that the West Ham star is now set for a scan, with fears growing in E20.

Crook said: “I’m told, having been forced off through injury, he is to have a scan on Tuesday.

“My sources at West Ham are telling me that they are concerned that this is a problem that could potentially rule him out for a number of weeks. Obviously, that would be a massive blow to their hopes of staying in the Premier League.”

With that being said, the initial “knock” that has been suggested by some looks to be a lot worse than first expected, considering he is due for a scan.

Who could step up in Summerville’s potential absence?

West Ham will be hoping for Summerville to return to action at some point in the near future, and just because he’s going for a scan doesn’t mean the end of the world.

It’s still not ideal, and the wait will be anxious, but Nuno will be confident that he has enough in the locker room to get the Hammers over the line in a push for Premier League survival.

The West Ham boss started with Adama Traore on the left wing against Brentford, something which he could do more of, should Summerville’s injury be serious.

Alternatively, Nuno could look to youngster Keibar Lamadrid as someone who can add that extra bit of fearlessness to West Ham’s attack for some crucial league games.

Regardless, Nuno will be hoping that his star player does make a swift return.
