West Ham should have come away from Sevilla with more – David Moyes

David Moyes believes West Ham should have left the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium with a better result last night (March 10).

The Hammers suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Sevilla in the first leg of their Europa League round of 16 tie.

The Scot believes Manuel Lanzini and Nikola Vlasic should have done better on a night that will be remembered for its missed chances.

West Ham

“We had opportunities tonight, we did a lot of good things, but Sevilla are a tough team a very very good team,” Moyes told Football London.

“We did enough for a draw, we had chances but also Sevilla had some opportunities.

“The Vlasic chance was huge and Lanzini’s too. It is a regular occurrence in the last few games, we should have probably got a point at Anfield and tonight we could have easily got a draw as well.

“So we have to turn the good chances into goals, because at the moment we are not finishing off after good work and effort and we need to take those chances.”

All to play for

The Irons goalscoring form has been up and down this season. They went through a spell, as Moyes said, a few months ago where there was a major lack of creativity and chances created which saw the goals dry up.

West Ham

This is different though. West Ham are creating great chances in games but for some reason the players just can’t put them in the back of the net.

Moyes’ side are now in the business end of a hugely successful season and the boss will want to rectify their attacking issues before it has an impact on their targets.

It is imperative the Hammers are firing on all cylinders by the time Sevilla make the trip to the London Stadium next week. They have a 1-0 deficit to overturn so they have to score some goals whilst not conceding any more.

It is a huge task they face but they will carry the confidence from last night’s excellent display.
