West Ham should definitely look to sign Jerdy Schouten in the summer

West Ham reportedly hold “concrete interest” in Bologna midfielder Jerdy Schouten.

According to a report from Corriere de Bologna (16 May, page 5), the Hammers are one of the clubs vying for his signature in the summer. He has a contract at the club till 2024.

The midfielder has been impressive in the second half of the season, but further details about the potential interest haven’t been disclosed.

Last week, The Daily Mail reported that the Hammers are monitoring the “highly-rated” midfielder.

The newspaper reported that the Hammers have watched the 25-year-old extensively this season, and they have been impressed with what they’ve seen.

Having already booked a place for next season’s Europa League, West Ham should now focus on bolstering the squad in the summer.

The midfield is one area that needs attention. The Hammers have made it clear that they won’t sell Declan Rice in the summer, but adding depth in midfield is necessary.

Mark Noble has retired and the club need to fill his void with quality players.

Several Italian clubs are also interested but the Hammers can still tempt him to make a switch to the Premier League with a good offer.

Furthermore, there is uncertainty over the future of Tomas Soucek, so, it seems, the Hammers are manoeuvring themselves into a position to strike a deal for the midfielder.

Having scouted him extensively, it looks like they are likely to secure a summer deal for him.
