West Ham set to offer new deal to Ben Johnson

West Ham are reportedly set to offer a new contract to young defender Ben Johnson.

According to Claret and Hugh, talks have already started as the Hammers are looking to possibly tie him down for three more years.

His current deal is scheduled to expire at the end of the season, but the club want to keep him at the London Stadium for the foreseeable future.

Good move

The 21-year-old is a capable defender who has a bright future ahead of him and should thrive in the coming years under the right manager.

A right-back by trade, he’s just as capable of playing at left-back and can put in a shift further up the pitch as well.

Given his versatility, age and relatively decent fitness record, it’s almost a no brainer to hand him a new deal and reward him for his patience.

In a February 2021 podcast, reliable Hammers insider ExWHUemployee referred to him as someone who’s “very popular with the players”.

He also went on to say, “I think he’s got everything that could make him a great player, he’s got pace, he’s good on the ball. He reads the game well.”

Hopefully, we see more of him in the coming weeks as he’s certainly one who can get the fans excited.

The fact that he’s born in London and has been part of the club’s developmental sides since seven would make him an instant cult hero should he become a first-team regular.
