West Ham set for ‘perfect storm’ as Sullivan decides on Lopetegui
Andrew Dillon says Monday night’s game between West Ham and Wolves will be the “perfect storm” amid questions regarding the future of both club’s managers.
Despite a poor season which sees the Hammers sitting just six points above the relegation zone, David Sullivan has not yet made the move to part ways with Julen Lopetegui.
However, his team face a struggling Wolves side on Monday [9 December] in a game that could mean the end for either boss.
Dillon has labelled this as one to watch as he wrote in The Sun [6 December, page 50]: “Monday night at the London Stadium should be interesting in the P45 derby.
“With West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui and his Wolves counterpart Gary O’Neil both clinging onto their jobs, the football is going to be dreadful but the toxic atmosphere will make for a perfect storm.
“Particularly when the inevitable chants of ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’ strike up – and neither manager knows which set of fans is singing it or at whom.”
The end is in sight for Julen Lopetegui at West Ham
All eyes are on Monday’s game between the Hammers and Wolves with the feeling being that the loser of the game will then lose their job as manager.
However, even if the East London outfit does get a result against Wolves, it surely cannot be enough to save the Spaniard just yet.
Supporters have been hugely disappointed with West Ham’s season and their lack of both success and progress on the pitch and despite Sullivan choosing not to make any changes yet, it will take more than just one win to turn this tenure around.

The Hammers have shown they have quality in them, most notably in their recent victory against Newcastle United, but a failure to back this up in subsequent games has left questions over how much the 58-year-old can really achieve with this side.
As Dillon says though, the atmosphere on Monday night will surely be a tense one with a game that could be a turning point in the season for either side.
