West Ham player ratings v Brighton: Aaron Cresswell drops stinker

Aaron Cresswell dropped a stinker as West Ham suffered a humiliating 2-0 defeat against Brighton at home on Sunday afternoon.

Alexis Mac Allister and Leandro Trossard scored the goals as the Seagulls cruised to victory against the Hammers.

David Moyes’ side struggled with very few players putting in respectable performances.

West Ham

Here are our player ratings from the game:

Lukasz Fabianski – 4

The Hammers number one made just one punch all game and looked nervous while claiming certain crosses. He did not make a single save all game and it was an underwhelming performance.

Vladimir Coufal – 4

Lost possession 12 times and failed to offer a potent threat from the right throughout the game. Moyes clearly will be demanding more from him.

Kurt Zouma – 3

Failed to communicate properly with his centre-back partner and had one of his worst games in a West Ham kit. He’s got to improve on that.

Thilo Kehrer – 3

Not the kind of debut the former PSG man would have expected. Welcome to the Premier League. He lost most of the duels he attempted and while his passing was good, his defending was far from it. Giving away a penalty never really helped him grow into the game.

Aaron Cresswell – 1

Moyes may have reached a position when he should play Maxwel Cornet instead of Cresswell at left-back. The Englishman was horrendous on the day and it’s clear that he’s no longer good enough to be a regular. He lost all of his ground duels and picked up a needless booking as well.

Tomas Soucek – 5

Had few decent moments but apart from that, it was an underwhelming performance from the Czech international.

West Ham

Declan Rice – 6

One of the few players who put in a decent performance but there’s little he could do when players around him let him down continually.

Jarrod Bowen – 7

Was surprisingly the only Hammers attacking threat all game. Had close to 50 touches and was one player that the visitors were scared to play against.

Pablo Fornals – 4

Playing as a 10, there was hope that he would set up more chances for his attacking counterparts but that did not happen. His place also seems to be up for grabs with Manuel Lanzini waiting in the wings.

Said Benrahma – 3

If not for Cresswell, Cornet has to come in for Benrahma. He hasn’t started the season well at all and looked off the pace throughout the game. He lost possession 13 times and seldom seemed up for the fight.

Michail Antonio – 3

Another player we do not see starting the next game is Antonio. The time has come for him to make way for Gianluca Scamacca and for the Hammers to play with authority.
