West Ham have confirmed their plans to build a new statue at the London Stadium have been approved.

In a statement on the club’s official website, it was announced that a statue of Sir Geoff Hurst, Bobby Moore and Martin Peters will be installed at Champions Place and be unveiled as part of West Ham’s 125th anniversary celebrations before the current season ends.

It has been deciding that the statue or Hurst, Moore, Peters and Ray Wilson, near the site of the old Boleyn Ground, will remain in place at the junction of Barking Road and Green Street.

Ever since moving to the London Stadium, Hammers fans have argued that the former Olympic Stadium simply hasn’t felt as homely as Upton Park did.

The stands are far from the pitch, it’s clearly a stadium that was mainly designed for athletics and there was a major lack of West Ham’s branding.

Fortunately, the club has worked hard to get the London Stadium looking more and more like the home of the Hammers.

It’s not quite Upton Park – nor will it ever be.

But this is West Ham’s home now whether people like it or not and at least the team is starting to get some really good results there this season.

It’s a shame no one has been able to attend these matches but without the added pressure of the Hammers fans, it might have helped some of the players to flourish.
