West Ham plan Jesse Lingard move in the final week of the transfer window
Jesse Lingard wants West Ham United to move for him in the last week of the summer transfer window, according to Eurosport journalist Dean Jones.
The Hammers want the Manchester United attacking midfielder back at the London Stadium after his loan spell in January, but he was keen to see whether he would feature in the plans of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the opening games of the new campaign.
However, that has not happened, and the 28-year-old England international now wants David Moyes’ side to get a deal done within the next six days.
Speaking on The Football Terrace YouTube account (at 41:33), Jones said when asked about West Ham’s plans for Lingard: “Yeah definitely. They’re already in the conversation. They’ve laid off of it for a bit because they were told that Jesse wanted to see if he was in the team in the early weeks of the season.
“Clearly, he’s not in the main plans under Solskjaer. So, their plan was always to visit it in the last week of the window. One, because that’s what the player has really requested, but two, because his value should be lessened by now as well.
“If you’d have tried to strike a deal for Jesse Lingard a month ago, it probably would have cost you £10m more than it will do at the end of this window. They are definitely in the hunt for him.”
Time to move
Lingard has played just four minutes of Premier League football this season, and his chances of breaking into Man Utd’s starting XI are as slim as they come.
He needs to leave for West Ham when he still has the chance, and the Hammers would fancy getting a deal done in the coming days.
With Solskjaer insisting the England international is firmly in his plans for the new season, it would be up to Lingard to make his feelings known to the Old Trafford outfit.
He has to be playing regularly this season to keep his international career alive and make manager Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions World Cup squad, and that is not going to happen at the Theatre of Dreams from the look of things.
Moyes should have a place for Lingard in his first-team plans, although the resurgence of Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals’ form could make it difficult for the attacker to find his way back into the Irons starting XI.
Nevertheless, with lots of games to play this season, there would be enough playing minutes to go round, and the Man Utd man needs to get himself back to the London Stadium in the coming days.
