West Ham plan fresh terms for Ben Johnson in next six months – report

West Ham are looking to tie starlet Ben Johnson down to a new contract within the next six months, according to Dean Jones.

Amid interest from Tottenham and Arsenal, the Hammers activated a clause in the 22-year-old’s contract, extending his deal by two years.

The Irons are now looking to tie their man down to a new long-term deal with Johnson already having rejected attempts.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “They tried to sign him on a long-term contract, which wasn’t done, but they triggered this extension and from what I understand,

“West Ham want to get him to sign fresh terms within the next six months or so if they can.”

Get it done.

This lad is a big, big talent. You can almost instantly see how good a young player is when they make their debut and Johnson proved himself right from the start.

So much so, he is now the Irons’ first-choice right-back. Now that might have been helped by the injury of Vladimir Coufal but the youngster should definitely keep his place in the team upon his Czech Republic teammates’ return.

It can’t be forgotten that Johnson is very inexperienced despite his impressive displays as he learns his trade.

Impressive displays in both legs against Sevilla as well as the likes of Liverpool in the league suggest he is a seasoned defender rather than the new boy on the block.

West Ham simply cannot afford to let this lad go, at any cost. He is a gem of a player and will hopefully be a part of the new era at the London Stadium alongside Declan Rice, Jarrod Bowen, and co.
