West Ham owners to offer Moyes new long-term deal, boss has one demand – report

West Ham are hopeful of tieing boss David Moyes down to a new long-term deal, despite the manager already being committed to the club until 2022.

Moyes returned to east London in December 2019 for his second stint, having initially guided them to safety. He wasn’t offered an extended deal, with the club opting for Manuel Pellegrini.

According to The Sun’s Duncan Wright, the owners look set to offer Moyes an improved contract that runs for another three years. The boss does have one demand, though.

He wants David Gold and David Sullivan to agree to put a new scouting system in place, so the club can continue their good work in the transfer market.

At this point, give Moyes whatever he wants. He deserves to be calling the shots with this proposed new deal. What a remarkable job he’s doing at the London Stadium.

In 14 months he’s taken us from relegation strugglers to the brink of European football. We’re really happy for him, more than anything. He’s always been a top-class manager, but after stints with Manchester United and Sunderland, he’d become a bit of a joke.

These were two jobs he was destined to fail at but still took on. Imagine being the chosen one to succeed Sir Alex at United? Sunderland on the other hand, were a sinking ship.

In all honesty, it appeared we were heading down a similar route, too. But twice now Moyes has spared us from relegation, and it was only right he had a go at building his own team.

The transfer business has been immaculate. Shifting the dead weight, high earners such as Jack Wilshere, Sebastian Haller and Felipe Anderson was a good start. The arrivals have all been spot on, too. Coufal, Dawson, Soucek, Benrahma, Bowen and Lingard are all first-team starters and have arrived at the club since Moyes came back.

He’s highlighted the areas that the club needs improving, and the board have listened. It was vital for them that they got this manager correct before things turned really sour with the fans. Pellegrini was backed in the market but the recruitment was shocking.

Moyes has just about finished cleaning up his mess and has really put his own stamp on the team now. Give him however many years he wants, solidify a new recruitment structure and get the deal done. Let’s see where he can take us.
