West Ham offer Vladimir Coufal new contract without pay rise, Premier League clubs on alert

West Ham defender Vladimir Coufal has been left baffled by the club’s decision to offer a new contract on the same wage terms, according to Charlie Wyett.

The Sun journalist posted the news via his personal Twitter profile with a link to the full report.

On Twitter he wrote: “Vladimir Coufal is being offered a new deal at West Ham without a pay rise.”

On The Sun website, he wrote: “The Czech defender has been left stunned by the club’s decision to offer him a new contract — on exactly the same terms.

“A real professional on and off the pitch, the bizarre situation will open the door to interest from other Premier League clubs.”

Wyatt’s report claims Coufal is already one of the lowest earners at the club, so this news, if it is correct, is utterly disgraceful.

The 28-year-old Czech Republic international was instrumental to our success last season, driving on the side from right-back to help inspire us to a sixth-place position that secured Europa League football.

He is one of the more unheralded stars of the team with compatriot Tomas Soucek taking most of the shine alongside Declan Rice and Michail Antonio.

But his importance should not be underestimated, and nor should his reputation as one of the most consistent full-backs in the Premier League.

It sounds like some of our rivals could make a move if the uncertainty of a new contract continues, and it would be hard to deny him the chance of a move if the West Ham board really are refusing to increase his wages.

He is one of our most important players, and his salary at the club should reflect that.
