West Ham now in ‘good position’ to sign Evan Ferguson after transfer agreed
West Ham are in a good position to make a move for Evan Ferguson, according to Jacob Steinberg.
The Guardian reporter shared on X (30 January) that the Hammers have been affected positively due to the fact a deal has been agreed in principle between Jhon Duran and Al Nassr to take the Aston Villa striker to the Saudi Pro League [David Ornstein, 29 January].
The knock-on effect of this is that the Saudi Arabian side will no longer need to chase Victor Boniface of Bayern Leverkusen, lessening their need for another striker after they were said to be interested in Ferguson [Dharmesh Sheth, 29 January], opening up the possibility for West Ham to complete a move before the 3 February deadline.
West Ham to finally land Evan Ferguson?
Bringing a striker into The London Stadium has been a top priority for Graham Potter throughout the transfer window so far due to his side being without Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug, all through injury.
Furthermore, Ferguson is a name that has been on the radar of the Hammers for a while with plenty of speculation over whether Brighton would be willing to strike a deal, as well as the threat of interest from other sides.
However, a move to Saudi Arabia for Duran, a player the Irons made a move for during the winter transfer window, could be the start of a domino effect that leads the 20-year-old to East London.
With Potter at the helm, this could be an exciting transfer for West Ham to get over the line and with the path seemingly clear to do so, the East London outfit should be putting all of their efforts into getting a deal done to ease their attacking woes.
Potter is familiar with Ferguson having worked with the Republic of Ireland striker at Brighton.
