West Ham news round-up: Karren Brady told to exit as surprise candidate to replace Graham Potter emerges

West Ham fans’ frustrations are continuing to grow following a poor start to the Premier League season.

The Hammers have won just one game so far this season, and alarmingly, have managed just two wins at the London Stadium in 2025.

It had been expected that after West Ham’s 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace, Graham Potter would lose his job, with supporters eager to see changes.

With developments surrounding Potter’s future coming to light, West Ham Zone rounds up all the news from the last 24 hours.

David Sullivan snubbed Ballon d’Or nominee Hansi Flick for West Ham role

Following the departure of David Moyes in 2024, two candidates stood out for the vacant position, in Julen Lopetegui and former Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick.

The Hammers turned down the opportunity to appoint Flick, and the German went on to have a successful spell with Germany before heading to Barcelona.

Supporters still look back on the decision in disbelief, especially given their downfall since that point.

On Monday night at the Ballon d’Or awards ceremony, Flick was a runner-up for the Johan Cruyff Trophy.

Fellow nominees for the Johan Cruyff Trophy:

The German won the Spanish Cup, Copa Del Rey, and La Liga titles ahead of Real Madrid last season, in a highly competitive division.

Graham Potter snubs star signings to prove point

The Hammers face plenty of issues on and off the pitch after a difficult 18 months.

It’s clear that plenty of signings over the last few transfer windows have fell short of their expectations, and West Ham have paid the price for them.

Former West Ham midfielder Martin Allen believes that Potter has been purposely snubbing players to make a point.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Allen said: “Against Tottenham, there were two subs who West Ham paid £65m for.

Todibo is a centre-back who can’t get on the pitch, and Fullkrug. They paid over £65m for those two, and clearly Potter doesn’t think they’re any good because he’s dropped them.

There’s a real dilemma behind the scenes.

The director of football who signed them has been sacked, because they are nowhere near good enough, that’s obvious.

Karren Brady comes under fire from Richard Keys

Karren Brady has come under fire for her role at the London Stadium in recent months.

The businesswoman was vocal over the summer and protected the Hammers’ transfer stance on selling to buy.

Brady has come under fire for her choice in appointing Potter, as she described the former Chelsea boss as a “hugely respected elite Premier League coach.”

Writing in his blog, Richard Keys slammed Brady for her comments, with Potter’s exit getting closer.

He wrote, “It looks like Graham Potter is toast. Is anyone surprised? He was never the man for West Ham. He’s not a big club manager.

“All that bluster from Karen Brady when they appointed him looks even more stupid now. She should go with him.”

Scott Parker lined up by West Ham to replace Graham Potter

Plenty of reports have been swirling around about who could be replacing Potter at the Hammers.

Nuno Espirito Santos had been lined up by the West Ham hierarchy, but the two parties appear to be apart in their valuations of the Portuguese manager.

According to GiveMeSport [23 September], former Irons midfielder Scott Parker has been identified as a candidate for the West Ham role should it become available.

Parker started off his managerial career with Fulham before moving on to Bournemouth after he was sacked.

The 44-year-old had a short and unsuccessful spell at Club Brugge before returning to England and guiding Burnley to promotion from the Championship.
