West Ham news round-up: Alvarez transfer update, Noble leads striker pursuit

Edson Alvarez and Mark Noble are the latest figures to be involved in a news round-up at West Ham in recent days.

Graham Potter and his staff will be hoping to put the disappointing 2-1 defeat to Chelsea behind them, welcoming Brentford to the London Stadium on Saturday 15 February.

And while the winter transfer window closed 11 days ago, rumours and speculation continue to swirl in East London, with every opportunity to make further signings once the summer window opens.

Chris Sutton predicts West Ham v Brentford scoreline

With Potter’s side welcoming Brentford to the London Stadium on Saturday, he will be relieved to see Edson Alvarez, Lucas Paqueta and Jean-Clair Todibo ready to return from injury.

Chris Sutton has already hit back at any “boring” predictions for the Premier League clash, suggesting that the Bees’ away form could fall right into the Hammers’ hands.

Dropping a prediction of his own, even despite the danger that Bryan Mbeumo and Yoanne Wissa possess, the former Celtic man has tipped West Ham for a 2-1 home win.

Mark Noble leads search for striker signing

According to ExWHUEmployee [12 February], the Hammers are leading the race to sign Celtic’s Daniel Cummings and Mark Noble is playing a key role in the potential deal.

With 26 goals in 27 games for Celtic’s B team this season, the 18-year-old gathered plenty of attraction during the winter transfer window, but he could instead move to East London in the summer.

Evan Ferguson has only just arrived from Brighton on a loan deal, but with him likely to leave at the end of the season, the next talented striker is already on the radar at the London Stadium.

Monaco confirmed failed attempt to sign Edson Alvarez

Alvarez has been the subject of transfer interest since his £35million move to Ajax in August 2023, and while a lot of that has been speculation, one of these cases has now been confirmed.

Speaking to Fox News Mexico [10 February], Monaco’s technical director Carlos Avina has confirmed the Ligue 1 club explored a move for the midfielder last month but were unable to reach an agreement.

The Mexican has made 64 appearances since moving to the Premier League, and although he has struggled this season, there is no denying his talents in the middle of his park.
