West Ham need Jarrod Bowen to deliver v Liverpool
West Ham will travel to Anfield to face Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday (5 March) and they need Jarrod Bowen to return to his best form.
The Hammers won 3-2 in the corresponding fixture at home, but to get something away from this game looks like a daunting task.
Anfield has never been a happy hunting ground for the Hammers. They have won only once in their last 51 visits, while David Moyes never won a Premier League game at this iconic venue.
Leaving the stats aside, there are other reasons to worry about. First and foremost, the Reds – who are challenging for the title – are in red-hot form. They have won six league games in a row, whereas the Hammers are struggling for consistency.
Keeping a clean sheet at Anfield has proved for other teams next to impossible, so West Ham’s best chance of getting a positive result is to score goals and at the same time remain solid at the back.
That is why Moyes needs Bowen to deliver. The 25-year-old has been superb for the Hammers, managing eight goals and eight assists in the league thus far. He has been receiving praise from everywhere, with Joe Cole hailing him as “unbelievable”.
However, his recent form is a bit of a concern. He was ineffective during the 1-1 draw against Newcastle United while producing a shocking performance in the 1-0 win against Wolves.
He played the entire 90 minutes in the 3-1 FA Cup defeat against Southampton and looked completely out of touch.
With Michail Antonio being Michail Antonio, it’s Bowen who needs to step up and show his quality. If he plays well, the Hammers have a slim chance of getting a good result on Saturday.
In other West Ham news, reports suggest that the Irons are in the “box-seat” to sign this £100,000 per week Premier League ace.
