West Ham namedropped after ‘Unbelievable’ Liam Delap transfer news

West Ham will have one eye on the summer transfer window, with a partial focus on the future of Liam Delap at Ipswich.

Since the arrival of Graham Potter, very few improvements have been made, though there has been enough to steer the Irons away from any possibility of relegation.

West Ham’s season has been finished for a while now, leaving them with very little left to play ahead of the final run-in.

With that in mind, attention will have turned to the transfer window and the decisions that will need to be made on a recruitment front.

Delap is likely to leave Ipswich this summer

West Ham had been linked with a move for Delap earlier in the season, though the 22-year-old remained with The Tractor Boys in a bid to keep them up.

That hasn’t worked, and it looks inevitable that Ipswich will fall back into the Championship, which will trigger a £30million release clause in his contract, and Darren Bent and Andy Goldstein gave their reaction to the situation.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (11 April, 4:45pm), Goldstein said: “£30 million for a player that’s scored 12 goals in the Premier League for a club that’s been struggling. I mean, that’s an unbelievable amount of goals.

To which Bent replied: “I just think for him to go from Man City, where he played a handful of games, to Stoke, to Preston, to Hull, to Chelsea or Man United, I just think that jump might be a little bit too much, because that is a big jump.

“I almost feel like maybe there’s something in between that, and then say he goes to West Ham, I’m just giving an example of a football club, and he scored 15 to 20, and he had a couple of seasons doing that consistently. Well, he scored 12 goals this season. If he scores another three, he gets to 15, and then next season again, he scores another 15, then you go, okay, maybe he’s ready.

West Ham could seal sensational Delap signing this summer

West Ham need to recruit well this summer, and a failure to do that will be detrimental to their hopes of progressing from the current campaign.

Delap’s signing would be an excellent start, and given the struggles they have had from an attacking point of view, it would be needed addition.

However, given his performances for a very poor side this season, he will have many suitors, some of whom may be able to offer him European football, which would be far better than any guarantees at the London Stadium.

Time will tell where the Irons’ ambitions lie, but it’s fair to say this transfer saga may go on for some time.
