West Ham mulling over £5million bid for James Tarkowski

West Ham are “contemplating a £5million bid to tempt” Burnley into cashing in on James Tarkowski before he leaves for free, according to Football.London.

The two-time cap England international, 29, is out of contract at the end of 2021-22, and while they risk losing him for nothing, the Turf Moor outfit are unlikely to accept just £5million for his signature.

However, it is believed that with the right offer, a deal is thought to be possible if Hammers boss David Moyes deems Tarkowski his number one priority.

How much is he worth?

West Ham would ideally want a loan or bargain deal in January in a bid to land a defensive cover following long-term injuries to Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna.

However, they will need to up their offer if they want Tarkowski from the look of things.

The Burnley star is clearly not keen on signing an extension with Sean Dyche’s side, and it is understandable if they opt to sell should a sizeable offer be brought to the table despite their relegation worries.

Moyes has got the final say, and while the Hammers board would be ready to back him, he will not want to be rushed into making a decision.

Tarkowski will be available for free in June 2022, and paying over the odds for him in January would not make sense.

West Ham could do with such an addition to their backline in order to save their season, though, and they may have to look elsewhere for the bargain deal they want.

The Irons clearly need to get better at the back if they indeed want to mount a solid top-four challenge.

The ball is in their court as Burnley are ready to sell if the right offer is submitted, and both clubs will now have to decide what they deem as one.
